Mr and Mrs Blacke

This brilliant Jamaican play will be one of the five offerings that Shakespeare in Paradise will present during our 2012 festival. We wanted to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Independence of both Jamaica and Trinidad and thought of no better way of doing that than to have works from those countries performed at this year’s Shakespeare in Paradise theatre festival. We have already announced Lion City Live as the offering from Trinidad and we are now pleased to announce Mr and Mrs Blacke as the work that will be presented from Jamaica.

Fresh off a highly successful and critically acclaimed run at the Philip Sherlock Centre, University of the West Indies, Mr and Mrs Blacke has been described as having “moments of excellence”. Other adjectives are listed in the following YouTube clip released for the Sherlock Centre’s performances:

Produced by Eight, Seven, Six Productions, the cast is headed by Keiran King, who takes on both writing and acting duties. Playing opposite him is Sakina Deer. The play is directed by Paul Issa and is co-produced by Raisha Lovindeer.

There will only be three performances of this play during the festival so we suggest that you book your tickets early. Even better, why not purchase a Season Ticket, save $25 and see Mr and Mrs Blacke, Lion City Live, Out o’ Wedlock, Speak the Speech and Merchant (our signature Shakespeare production) all for just $100.

Shakespeare in Paradise runs from October 5th thru 13th and the Box Office opens at the Dundas on September 17th.

You will be able to find more details about this play and all of the other works in this year’s festival on this site, on our Facebook page and on Twitter.
