Horn of Plenty featuring Indio
Horn of Plenty
Eight of Shakespeare’s sonnets performed in different spaces at the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas. View the National Exhibition while hearing Shakespeare’s love sonnets – eight sonnets and eight different parts of the exhibition, all accompanied by glasses of wine. The sonnets will be performed by College of The Bahamas students and directed by Keith Wisdom; the exhibition will be courtesy of the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas. This is an evening of two-for-the-price-of-one, because Horn of Plenty will be followed by Indio, the one man play by Alaudin Ullah.
This work comes to Shakespeare In Paradise from the mind of former stand-up comic Aladdin Ullah out of New York. The semi-autobiographical play follows the life of Aladdin after his parents immigrate from Bangladesh to New York. What follows is a comedic wrestling of the soul. Ullah finds that he is not the good Muslim his mother wishes him to be nor has he sold out like how other South–Asian actor friends. Written and performed by Ullah this one person production is being directed by Chay Yew who is a playwright and stage director who was born in Singapore and now lives in New York City. Yew was the director of the Mark Taper Forum’s Asian Theatre Workshop for 10 years. He is the recipient of the 2007 OBIE Award for Direction.
